Ryzenberg On: From Jamaica with Love
So Memorial Day came and went and Summer is almost here — of course all this sunshine, (even in the city by the bay) BBQs and fun fashions have me thinking of one thing…I need a vacation in a tropical setting.
There is one hidden gem that’s making me crazy because it blends my love of Bond, beaches and bikinis into one incredible setting: The GoldenEye in Jamaica.
This enclave on the Oracabessa Bay in the north coast of the island, plays a special homage to the man that loves shaken, not stirred martinis, beautiful women, fast cars and living life to the fullest.
The history behind this resort is what really captivates me. This used to be the home of Ian Fleming, who spent time in Jamaica during WWII and decided to call the land of rum and reggae home in 1946. It was in this lush property that Fleming created one of pop cultures most iconic and beloved characters — James Bond.
With guests such as Elizabeth Taylor, Truman Capote and Laurence Olivier among many more, you know this tropical hideaway is chock full of stories. But the legacy continued even post 007 days when Bob Marley got cold feet and decided not buy it deeming it “too posh” for his taste so his producer, Chris Blackwell, purchased the estate in 1976.
It seems Fleming wasn’t the only one expressing his creativity at the GoldenEye. While on holiday, (as the Brits would say) Sting wrote one of the Police’s most popular hits ‘Every Breath You Take’ in 1983.
Now it’s my chance to live my inner Bond girl (a la Ursula Andress, of course) and lose myself in the wondrous 52-acres filled with, cottages, two restaurants, a spa and of course the Fleming villa. All I want is a cocktail, a few bikinis and sunscreen (yup, protection is key) and of course a hot companion won’t be turned away.
This locale sure is made for those who seek rest & relaxation mixed in with a bit of history, adventure and an imagination; Oh if only these walls could talk.
My bags are packed and I am ready to check-in and enjoy sunshine galore. Who is coming with me?

Ryzenberg On: Smooth Sailin’
Ok, I guess it’s quite apparent I tend to overdue it when it comes to stripes, nautical themes and anything sailing.
I think I am probably one of the most excited San Franciscans that the America’s Cup is coming to the City By the Bay next year but not so much because I follow sailing (who are we kidding?) but mostly because of all of the Sperry’s, seersucker, and Wayfarers that will be in abundance.

Ryzenberg On: The Grace Kelly of Our Generation
If winter is awards season, spring (specifically May) must be Haute Couture month. With the Met Ball earlier in the month paying homage to Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli, and now the Cannes Film Festival rolling, fashionistas are having a fashion-filled field month!
I must begin by showing this photo of the uber beautiful Diane Kruger on the red carpet wearing a sea foam green one-shoulder Gianbattista Valli Haute Couture gown that clearly had even photographers in awe.
I could only imagine the yelling stopping for a few seconds as this entrance is truly a vision and only achivable by an elite group of women.
Kruger is of course no stranger to fashion. She is one of the Kaiser’s BFFs, (yes, we will get to his Chanel resort collection and all the antics later this month — running a bit behind I know) often sitting front row at most of his shows and was also a model before crossing over to acting.
When I first saw this image, only one thing came to mind: She is my generation’s Grace Kelly (sans the blue blood connection). She is poised, dignified, carries herself like a lady and really has an allure that is often unheard of in a sea of cookie-cutter starlets that make headlines for the wrong reasons.
It is always refreshing to see her in magazines for her sensational sartorial picks (more often than not on the best dressed or who wore it better lists) and can’t wait what her majestic film carrier has in store for her.
She is also the the global face of L’Oreal and Calvin Klein and Jaeger-LeCoultre are other campaigns under her (most likely Chanel or Hermes) belt. I don’t think anyone should be surprised she represents such coveted powerhouses.
Oh yeah and BF Joshua Jackson (better known as Pacey from Dawson’s Creek) is one lucky gent!

Ryzenberg On: So Long Vidal Sasson
Vidal Sasson was not only a man that revolutionized haircuts, but liberated women and made them stand tall and proud. He will be missed.
Thanks to him, women everywhere sported bobs, pixie cuts and angular styles that were unheard of and often ostracized during the 1960s. Thanks for offering a variety and allowing women to wear their hair in many different ways.
Hopefully his creativity transcends for generations to come.
