Ryzenberg On: Blown Away

If pampering is part of your weekend plans, then stop by the Dry Bar to relax, sip a cocktail and get pretty. The Bay Area is lucky to have three fantastic locations, and a few weeks ago, I spent the morning at their newest Palo Alto franchise.

I enjoyed the royal treatment of a drink, cookies and even enjoyed watching Pretty in Pink. Once my usual boring and flat hair was big and beautiful, I twirled for hours on end. It was nice to sport a playful look, considering 90 percent of the time, I sport it on a bun or pony tail.

If your hair is curly or somewhat unruly, the stylists have an array of options and ideas to choose from. What’s best is that you can even buy a services’ package and even plan a blowout party with your favorite gal pals.

There are no cuts or colors and it’s simply perfect for a night out, date night or simply to feel pretty. Another bonus? You won’t have to wash your hair for a few days, so it’s cost-effective too!

Ryzenberg On: Tacori Royalty Treatment

Diamonds — for some they are friends while for others foes. Usually the karats I come across with are more like ‘carrots,’ so when I had the chance to get up close and personal with Tacori and its wonders, I simply said, ‘sign me up.’

Here is the deal: As I walked to meet the brands during Lucky FABB, I was blindly stopped at the iconic jeweler’s corner by its exquisite collection of baubles. At first, I was a bit bashful and simply chatted with the brand reps and Senior Vice President of Marketing and PR Michelle Adorjan, while I of course, oooeed and ahhheed at every piece present.

Shortly afterwards, I decided to feel the baubles and even asked if I could try them on. Expecting a ‘no, they are just here to be looked at,’ I was majorly surprised when Michelle shared the fact that no one at the conference had tried on this $500,000 hexagon-shaped diamond necklace. I must add that Kate Beckinsale wore the earrings from this set to the 2011 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where she looked like a million bucks!

Needless to say, all bashfulness was out the door and I played princess for five minutes. What an unforgettable experience and it’s oh so hard to forget. Of course, my gal Amy of Amy’s Vintage Closet documented the act and soon after we dubbed the Tacori area, the “Yolo Lounge” because, after all, You Only Live Once.

This could very well be the only chance I will have to become besties with the diamonds, so made it a memorable one.

image

Holding Precious Cargo: Michelle and I chatting about the half a million dollar bauble and she was like ‘feel how light it is.’

image

A Girl Can Dream: Ryzenberg On’s Holly Golightly moment!

image

Step and Repeat: Sporting the beauty and showing its versatility! I mean, casual or glam — this is one piece de resistance sure to be a show stopper.

image

Yolo: We had to! I mean this girl witness my oh, la la moment and

image

Token of Love: Though the diamonds went back to where they belong (a vault, I assume), I was received this little treat on the mail just a few days ago. Thank you Tacori for such an unforgettable experience and I look forward to more shining moments and milestones with you alls.

Ryzenberg On: Dots & Pops

I know there are a smorgasbord of trends on this post, but if combined properly, it can indeed be a hit and provide a sprinkle of sassiness to any ensemble. I decided to add a dash of neon with the sandals and matching belt (inadvertently) and some metallics with the clutch.

Though it wasn’t appropriate to parade around in a polka dot bikini all day, I grabbed the next best thing out of my closet, a dotted sleeveless blouse that is almost a neutral. The chunky necklace simply adds fierceness and ties it all together.

If you feel this is a bit much , switch the green bottoms for white pants, or even a lighter denim. I tend to experiment when it comes to the color combos, but know that for some this could be overkill!

Ryzenberg On: Greener Sartorial Pastures

Happy Earth Day! Today is all about Madre Natura, its riches and beautiful traits it offers. If you are not the garden planting type or beach clean-off fanatic, there is a simpler way to show our earth some love — wear green and neutrals.

It’s that time of the year when the weather is rather fickle, (San Francisco is experiencing glorious weather) but don’t be fooled, because some layering is still a must for me. However, the temperatures are still below the Dew Point some places, so here are easy and fun ways to change into more spring or fall (for those south of the Equator).

image

Poppy Pops: Ms. Delevigne rocks the all black ensemble with a pop of green — simple, chic and fun.

image

Celine it All: Everyone’s favorite bag (remember when I wrote about it way back in the day?) gets a lively makeover for the warmer months. I also dig the smaller silhouette!

image

Kate the Great: The starlet wore this Proenza Schouler stunner to their NYC flagship opening back during Spring Fashion Week in September. Such a timeless look that works wonders for the gams. Not warm enough for sandals? No worries, tights and booties also fit the bill!

image

Hints of Green: Though this look doesn’t revolve around green, love the top and how well it works for a mid-season pick me up!

Ryzenberg On: The BF Jean is my BFF

I finally put to good use my Paige Denim gift certificate I received last year at LA’s lucky FABB. I must say that after pondering on whether to go for prints, (like these beautiful butterflies) skinnies or cutoffs, I followed my instinct and went for the uber popular BOYFRIEND JEAN.

So here is the deal, I went to their Robertson boutique a few weeks ago and browsed through their entire selection pretty meticulously. I asked the sales gal to show me her favorite loose fitting jeans, since I already had their Skyline style and was looking for something different.

The first pair I tried on where the James Crop and I immediately loved their soft feel and versatility. This was, in fact, a true contender.

The second pair was Jimmy Jimmy which is more distressed and bit darker. I liked it, but didn’t feel would work as much, considering I don’t want to look like I am off to the next heavy metal concert (or a Rock of Love contestant), or 15 years old. It was cool, but wasn’t 100 percent me. This one didn’t made the cut.

The third (and last) was the Lydia — A nice middle-of-the-ground James and Jimmy Jimmy. It had fewer rips, was full-length and looked very cute with the Sam Edelman booties I pretty much wear everyday.

It was down to the final two and after pretty much taking a Gallup poll from the sales gal, I went with the James. My rationale was that these jeans work well for summer, are good for the mild SF weather (excluding rain and those two days in December when it’s freezing) and I thought I was going to get more bang for my back.

I was right. After purchasing these beauties 10 days ago, I wore them all of last weekend (check Instagram) and will be on heavy rotation, whether dressed up with heels for a hot date (I mean, they are boyfriend jeans, after all) or more low-key with loafers and a tank.

No boyfriend in sight? Get a pair of boyfriend jeans. They won’t give you one-word answers, play games ask for coffee and more importantly, they will make you look and feel your best.

Last weekend’s staple:

Ryzenberg On: Vintage Wonderland

I guess it was one of those ‘love at first sight moments.’ I was walking on Valencia Street in the Mission, aimlessly looking for the newest and best until, long and behold, I sport a Clare Vivier bag in the window of a recently opened shop.

If you’ve either met me or read the dog-and-pony-show for a bit, you know Clare’s creations are on top of my sartorialisms and coveteables. This LA-based designer knows her way around leather and creates colorful, timeless designs that are versatile and divine. I have two clutches and so far, they have gone with me around the country and I am sure more adventures are afloat.

Soon after, I knew that was a sign. I had to go into the store and see what other marvels were in stock, and boy, was I lucky. Tucked inside a vintage boutique, Schatzi is decorator’s paradise filled with vintage one-of-a-kind pieces and antique delights.

I chatted with the owners Kevin and Charles for a few hours about what prompted opening such a ‘local gem.’ Both of these lads have extensive design backgrounds and are avid collectors, so after years of amassing beautiful pieces, they felt it was time to give them another home. They thought the back of the vintage shop Schauplatz was pretty perfect for their venture.

I am telling you, these pictures do not do the actual place any justice. You will be transformed to a different time, like a beautiful 1980s home or a hideaway in Palm Springs. Each vignette is carefully conceptualized and executed by Charles and Kevin, and they feature pieces found all over the country in flea markets, estate sales and simple hunts. As for the prices, there are plenty of pieces sure to satisfy those opting frugal finds, and event those that are ready to splurge.

Next time you are strolling by your favorite neighborhood, if a window display catches your eye, do not hesitate to see what’s all about. Not only did I walk away with a new store to rave about, I also made new friends but I look forward to bringing all of my decorista pals for a visit.

Ryzenberg On: Coachella Sartorialisms

Once a year, thousands of music fans flock to the desert for what has unofficially become the start of music festival season. Of course I am referring to Coachella.

This all-star parade of celebs, models and fashionistas often sets the bar pretty high for concerts and outdoor fun sartorialisms. Because I know how exhausting it is to look at hundreds of images of gorgeous people frolicking in the sun, I picked a handful of photos that show that laid-back California style as its best.

image

Tie Dyes and Flowing Dresses: It doesn’t get more Coachella than this look. Perfect for sitting down on the lawn and dealing with 100-plus temperatures. I am also a fan of the ethereal braids.

image

Perfection. Period: This soft lace little number paired with oversized sunnies brings a bit of glamour to the polo fields. A denim jacket is a must, since temperatures dip to the 60s or even 50s at night.

image

Cutoffs and Stripes: You thought I wasn’t going to feature this? Well, I guess you don’t know me at all! Also love the stacks (both arms) and fringe bag, which always reminds me of Stevie Nicks.

image

Prints & Textures: This look is about combining a variety of spring trends and doing them right. Colorful bag: Check, Crop top: Done and booties: Mission accomplished.

Ryzenberg On: Getting Lucky at LuckyFABB Day 2

The second day at LuckyFABB was more of a learning, exploring, networking event filled with informative panels, amazing gifting suites and of course, new gals!

I started the day mingling with Amy from Amy’s Vintage Closet, Danielle from Lou What Wear and Ashley from Golden Divine and attended a chat with Guess North America Advertising Director Andrea Chao, who gave us all the tricks of the trade when it comes to pitching brands.

Soon after, I learned about affiliate programs and blog marketing from the CEO at Beso, and got a few new ideas and the juices flowing for this dog-and-pony show.

As if this wasn’t good enough, I spent the afternoon mingling with brands and visiting the incredible gift suites to find out about collaboration prospects, trends and good inspiration.

What an incredible two days it was and expect a lot of additional coverage, considering I have nearly 500 photos I want to share with y’alls! (but not all at once, I mean everything in moderation)

Ryzenberg On: Getting Lucky at LuckyFABB Day 1

After a bit of pondering, I took the plunge and went to LuckyFABB in Los Angeles for the second year in a row. This time, the beauty and fashion blogger conference migrated to Beverly Hills and featured quite the roster of speakers, brands and panelists.

Throughout the whole month, I will share some of my experiences from this networking extravaganza, but for now I leave you with some highlights from day No. 1.

The Belle of the Ball: Drew and I chatted about makeup, life and of course, boys. I told her that I had in fact, been snubbed away in many forms of technology (just like she was on the flick ‘He is not that Into You.’

These are just some quick snapshots, but be sure to come back to read my entire Betsy encounter, some fantastic friends I made along the way and of course all of the goodies!

Ryzenberg On: Israel's Design Wonder (and its boys)

Before I head out to Los Angeles, I bring you the last installment of my DC adventures. This post is especially close to my heart, since it was simply a ‘meant to be situation,’ and if you have been reading the dog and pony show for a bit, you know these are my favorites.

So here is the deal — while I attended the AIPAC conference last month, I was running late to an event and got lost (surprise, surprise). But despite the panic and countless  directions from volunteers, I stumbled upon a lovely exhibit by students and graduates of the Shenkar School of Engineering and Design.

Shenkar is one of the most prestigious design schools in the world. In fact, it is No. 15 on Fashionista.com’s list of top fashion programs worldwide. They offer a variety of creative majors ranging from visual and industrial design, fashion and textiles to even more technical fields like software engineering.

Now on to the good stuff: My favorite NJB (nice Jewish boy) designer Alber Elbaz calls this place his alma mater. This man needs no introduction to those sartorially obsessed, as he is at the helm of Lanvin and was even immortalized as a Disney character for Barneys latest holiday campaign.

So if Paris, New York, London, Milan or Tokyo are not your cup of tea, perhaps plan a pilgrimage to the Promised Land. Embark on your design adventure in the land of falafel, timeless treasures and for some, the Holy Grail.

image

These dresses are by Shenkar graduate Mark Goldenberg (class of ‘11). His aesthetic has been compared to that of Alexander McQueen and Mark recently gained plenty of international press as a finalist in Italy’s ITS competition. Vogue Italia, Style Bubble, Glamour UK and Elle China are just a few of the publications that featured the rising star.

Anna Wintour, take note.

image

Can’t you picture Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj donning one of his creations. And of course, Ms. Dello Russo would be all over this little number!

Alas, I was so happy to get lost in design — and learn about the amazing talents that are emerging from the Middle East. Needless to say, my event started fashionably late, so it was a win-win for all.

As I prepare for the LuckyFABB conference in Los Angeles, I am using this iconic image of Audrey as a remainder that style defines character. So whether fashion is your passion or merely a bane of your existence, add a bit of personality and make it define who you are.

Though I may not have time to blog for the next few days, I will be posting some photos, and will be active on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to follow me there for the latest SoCal adventures.

Ryzenberg On: Cut it Out

Sexy silhouettes is what the warmer months are all about. Now that April is here, time to take a look at the closet and do some major spring cleaning. Get rid of those boots, sweaters and heavy scarves and prepare to don a little bit more skin.

One of the biggest trends from the runway is the cutout and you will see it everywhere from arms, chest and even abs. What’s great about this look is how the cutouts automatically give the illusion of a slender figure. When done with the perfect material, this is dynamite look!

Check out how some of the pros are embracing it.

image

Victoria Beckham: This trendsetter takes style to a whole new level. Mean, the neutrals, booties and peek-a-boo make this look ladylike without being too trashy. Such a perfect evening spring wedding look.

image

Bagdley Mishka: Feminine, flirty and fun. That lavender is to die for and the flowy material gives it an etherial feel.

image

Cushine et Ochs: These gals gave the trend a futuristic spin creating a fun dress that’s sexy and pops at all the right places. Also, simple sandals and perhaps a cuff is perfect as most of the attention will be drawn to the chest!

image

Versace: Hello sex appeal! Donatella simply added magic to this peek-a-boo look, perfect for a beach wedding or even date night. This is the type of dress celebrities will flock to wear to a movie premiere, awards show or even editorial fashion shoots. Just divine!

Ryzenberg On: Flower Power

Hello weekend! I needed a bit of a colorful pick me up, and this morning bought fresh flowers.

Want to spice up your home without re-decorating? Just get some blooms and create bouquets for living room, bedroom, kitchen and even bathroom.

image

Calla Lilies are perfect for my coffee table. Saw this vase on the Everygirl, scouted it during a recent visit to Venice Beach and will be on rotation for summer. Check out how I styled it earlier this month.

The Book of Chic: Purchased at Hudson Grace SF | Gardenia Candle from Voluspa | Tray: West Elm | Dish: Urban Outfitters | Magnifying Glass: Antique

image

I am not a DYIer, but these Ranunculi needed some revitalizing. I switched pots and added a little ribbon for a pop of bright pinks. How perfect and easy is this for a centerpiece!

Chevron Vase: Nate Berkus for Target | Small Pot: Cost Plus World Market.

image

Another vase on heavy rotation is my Italian syrup container. More chevron courtesy of Bustle Events for attending The Lab Event earlier this year, and the other vase was a yard sale steal for $1.

image

Mason Jars are the perfect spring vase. One of my friends recently said they are such a ‘hipster’ thing, but I disagree, because they are fun, timeless and perfect for decor or even for a cold glass of water.

Believe me, someone else’s trash is usually my treasure!

Happy weekend and for those celebrating this Sunday, have a marvelous Easter.

Ryzenberg On: She Wears Short Skirts

So happy I found this images, though it’s a bit of a ‘Throwback Thursday,’ since they were taken last spring. The great thing this that all of these pieces are ready to make a comeback.

I love short skirts. When I lived in Miami, I wore them regularly, dressed them up for the night and donned them with flip flops for errands. Despite not having the luxury to sport them often, when the sun is out I put them on the rotation. They are fun, flirty and when worn to the right occasion, a hit.

Always remember:

Keep the top part conservative. Too much cleavage and leg can look cheap (trust, me even Miss 305 over here follows that).

*Heels work, but if it’s too short go for the flats. Better to be safe than sorry.

*Skirts with a poof are fantastic and very playful, tulle is always a winner too.

*Strut your stuff and own it! You will feel like a million bucks and it’s worth it.

Shoeaholics this one is for you! Freda Salvador, the brain child of Megan Papay and Cristina Palomo, finally opened their little piece of paradise in the Marina.

When I set foot on this locale, I was immediately transported on a vacation. Every corner offers something different, whether it’s the seats from an old music venue, some classic photos of none other than Frida Kahlo and of course THE SHOES! They are all handmade and perfect for the hills of San Francisco.

They have an array of Oxfords (the must have shoe for spring,) booties and of course loafers in a variety of colors.

Ryzenberg On: Seder Sartorialisms

Passover is here, which means for the next eight days my diet will consist of matzah, proteins and all things unleavened! Yes, I know it sounds easy, but come the fifth day, the pizza cravings are rather prevalent and I can get rather irritable.

But despite the dietary restrictions (something all too familiar for my fellow MOTs) this particular holiday is one of my favorite traditions. I love the coming together and sharing freedom stories around the seder table, singing and sipping lots of wine (more than 4 cups indeed).

Passover’s best kept accessory is definitely the traditional plate, which normally depicts the ideas of captivity, redemption and renewal with items such as bitter herbs, a lamb shank, spices and an egg.

This year Vogue decided to feature a few tastemakers and their idea of this centuries-old custom with a seder plate makeover.

Jonathan Adler: If you are a fan of his work, then this plate is for you! It has his classic designs, lots of color and complete creativity. It evokes that midcentury feel that is playful, fun and light. I dig it.

Pamela Love: This is a different take on tradition, with whimsical interpretations for the icons. It’s more spiritual and very romantic, just like her baubles.

Jean-Georges Vongerichten: Just like his food, this kitchen maestro is giving a modern twist and even tweaking some of the staples. Forget the herbs, he replaced them with asparagus and gave it his own spin!

Andrea Lieberman: The Hermes plate combined with Japanese bowls give it a contemporary feel the the traditional all-in-one-plate. It almost feels like it’s a sushi meal, but instead of ginger, wasabi and soy sauce, you have charoset, herbs and salt water. The orange represents the women’s role in Judaism, representing how they too, should be considered equals when it comes to reading the Torah.

For those celebrating, Jag Sameaj and for those who observe other ideals, hope this taught you a bit of past, present and future combined with my love of bringing traditions together and forward.

Ryzenberg On: Orange, Orange All Day

So this is how I show school spirit! Let’s go Orange and let’s repeat 2003’s success (a girl can only dream, right).

March Madness is one of my favorite times of the year and though I normally don’t participate on Bracketology (it’s too close to the heart) I still try not to miss a game.

What’s the best part of being a Syracuse alum? Aside from, well, my education, I can’t complain that the ‘mascot’ (though back in the day it was the ‘Orangemen’) is one vibrant and fantastic color, that will forever be a closet staple! Perfect for year-round and guarantee to brighten anyone’s day.

Let’s go Orange!

Ryzenberg On: Hello Sunshine

Longer days, warmer air and blooms are back in full force! Welcome spring. I know that for many of us this means allergies also make an appearance, but hey, it’s time for a closet clean-up, change of style and softer hues.

So without further ado, I give you a few things I am certainly planning on donning this season. Of course, my signature (referring to my stacks) looks will make a cameo, and so will sunglasses, bold prints and sexy sandals.

What I love about this season’s sartorialisms is the return to the 1950s, a time where women often went for ladylike silhouettes, yet still evoked a je ne sais quoi feel, like sporting a crop top while on vacation, or even contrasting fantastic prints and textures.
