Ryzenberg On: First Lady in Red

The belle of the ball wore Jason Wu (again!)

It was a star-studded night in DC last night and once again, the First Lady’s fashions took center stage with a ‘ruby’ creation by the superstar she brought to the spotlight four years ago.

Mrs Obama (and of course, the president) entered the Inaugural Ball with a bang!

Of course, Mrs. Obama showcased her signature and toned arms. This night was certainly an affair to remember for many, especially those that admire Mrs. O’s style and grace.

With summer certainly comes bright colors, bold prints and memorable ensembles. It’s fun to express yourself in an array of patterns but always remember…moderation is the key!
Florals are fantastic, just pair them with classic trousers to evoke a nice contrast. Not ready to brave the bulbs completely? Just add a bag or a scarf to your look to add some pizazz.
Some of the most talked about prints of the season must be Altuzarra’s S/S 2012 collection, which got accolades when it graced the runway in September. These are timeless pieces that spice up any summer.
Here are other fantastic ways to go wild in prints:

Ryzenberg On: Politically Fashionable
If Oprah drove the masses in 2008 to vote for Obama, Anna Wintour hopes to do the same with fashionistas in 2012. Vogue’s supreme authority recently commissioned 22 designers (many of whom dress First Lady Michelle Obama) to create a product line to benefit Obama’s Victory Fund.
The collaboration will be sold online at www.store.barackobama.com and among the participants are Joseph Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Tory Burch, Rachel Roy, Narciso Rodriguez, Diane Von Furstenberg, Tracy Reece, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone and Jason Wu.
This is a risky move on designers if you ask me. Many, like Jacobs’ parent company LVMH, feared it could alienate the Republican clientele and told its brands to steer clear of the cause. Donna Karan stayed put and refrained from participating, while Marc, on the other hand, stood to his rebellious ways and went ahead.
I guess when Anna says jump, many designers simply go, ‘How High? And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the power of Vogue. The roster is more like ‘fashions for the one percent,’ since most of the designer’s price points cater to upscale shoppers, except for maybe Rachel Roy who sells a line at Macys and Jason Wu, whose collaboration with Target launches next month.
But the buck doesn’t stop here; Ms. Wintour will also throw a ‘Runway to Win’ party next month and A-lister Scarlett Johansson will be the hostess with the mostess. This soiree is sure to bring a bevy of celebrities and fashion elite to contribute.
I am not sure I agree with bipartisan fashion. I love the message behind motivating Americans to hit the polls, especially in such a critical time with all of the economic and social hardships hitting our society. However, the ‘99 percent’ (Obama’s staunch support from 2008) won’t go out to purchase a tee or tote designed by a CFDA member. They are more concerned with finding jobs, our debt crisis and the current banking woes.
So remember do your duty as an American citizen and rock the vote. (whichever candidate is your choice) After all, this is still a democracy.
One thing is for certain, some Democrats will be sporting fierce fashions on the campaign trail.

RyzenbergOn — Miss Piggy’s Fashions and upcoming InStyle Spread

I’ve been a fan of the Muppets since I can remember. In fact, one of my fondest childhood memories is Miss Piggy (better known back then as ‘Chancha Piggy’) dressed as Carmen Miranda singing Cuanto Le Gusta!

And of course, this precious porcine has cemented her way in the fashion A-list. She plays a plus-size role in the new Muppets movie as an editor of Vogue Paris, and some of her wardrobe consists of Zac Posen a and even some fabulous Loubis. InStyle magazine is dressing her for the part in the November issue, and some of the designers she will be donning include Jason Wu, (above) Prabal Gurung, (above) Opening Ceremony and Brian Atwood.

Get ready to see a lot of this pint-size starlet as she takes the spotlight to promote her new flick, which opens Thanksgiving weekend. She will also serve as a guest judge on “Project Runway All-Stars” and collaborated with MAC on a new limited edition line.

Wouldn’t it be great to see her show off those dance moves on Dancing With the Stars? I mean, the costumes alone, would be a 10 indeed!

So I pay homage to one of my favorite characters (I mean, sorry Miss Piggy, I correct myself, My FAVORITE leading lady) in true style and look forward to see all of the looks!

Kermit, you are one totally rad toad!
