Ryzenberg On: Peru Campeon!

While perusing the papers this morning — well, more like surfing the web and its myriad of blogs, I stumbled upon this gem and couldn’t contain myself.

Vogue Paris is dedicating their April issue to my beloved home country, Peru. Of course, it is of no surprise that Super Mario Testino is its guest editor. Some of the fashion spreads feature Isabeli Fontana in Cuzco, Kate Moss frolicking on the Pacific Ocean beaches and Erin Wesson discovering the Nazca Treasures.

The issue hits newsstands on March 22, and I can guarantee y’alls I will be featuring some of the highlights on le blog! (see, I am already polishing my Français)

This brings a smile to my face, and so happy to see that this South American paradise is slowly (but surely) becoming a jet setting Mecca.

Ryzenberg On: Tennant & Testino Take Over Peru

It is no secret that when it comes to fashion photographers, Mario Testino is one of the most sought after. But I can’t help it but get all giddy when I see my paisano, along with British beauty Stella Tenant on the September 2012 Vogue issue.

Big deal indeed! Why, you might ask? Because despite hundreds of covers, features, editorials and campaigns, this spread truly depicts what Peru is ALL about — a mixture of cultures, old and new, colors, traditions and histories.

When I first saw this, I felt as if I was reading Ricardo Palma’s ‘Tradiciones Peruanas,’ a series of stories about Peruvian life and ideals that first appeared in the 1850s. It is very  beautiful, yet poignant in showing how class systems and social inequality exists, despite coming a long way since the turn of the 20th century.

The ensembles are breathtaking and it feels like a museum exhibit. The combination of textures, colors, baubles and styles really makes Tennant shine!

Seriously, we’ve come a long way baby!

Ryzenberg On: The All Mighty Mario Testino
Fact: My favorite feisty Peruvian, fashion photography Maestro Mario Testino, shot the most Vogue covers in 2011. And this includes all of its editions.
I wonder what his iPhone favorites include Anna, Carine, Franca and Alexandra!

Ryzenberg On: Vogue Paris Dinner at the Hotel Crillon — Paris Fashion Week

Vogue Paris hosted a dinner at the fabulous Hotel Crillon in the heart of Place de la Concorde to honor none other than fellow feisty Peruvian (and one of my favorite photographers) Mario Testino and Blue blooded beauty Charlotte Casiraghi (she is, after all the granddaughter of Princess Grace.)

This fete was filled with fashion’s elite. Some of the notable guests included Marc Jacobs, Emanuelle Alt, Phoebe Philo, Franca Sozzani, Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing, Natasha Poly, Anja Rubik, Alber Elbaz and others. They enjoyed champagne, a magnificent dinner and unforgettable views of the ‘City of Lights.’

There is always room for play in between all madness and shows. I am sure Olivier toasted to the early positive reviews after his first Balmain collection, and Alber called it an early night as he had to prepare the final touches for the much anticipated Lanvin show, but hey, who is worried?

So many reasons to celebrate, and of course fashion is truly the star in this soiree.
